The White House is having a tech meetup on Friday, and a Baltimore nonprofit with a focus on workforce development and social enterprise will be there.
Henry Posko, president and CEO of Humanim, will be at the gathering, which is aimed at building on President Barack Obama’s TechHire Initiative to close the gap between open tech jobs and people with the skills to fill them.

Humanim is focused on that issue locally through workforce development programs that look to create economic opportunity, and in employing people at its own social enterprise outfits, like the document imaging firm iScan.
“At the Meetup, we’ll be working to highlight best practices and to expand outreach and inclusion efforts, so that we can find ways to help more people thrive in technology careers, especially those who have been less well-represented in the field,” Posko said.
The Tech Meetup is the first of its kind at the White House, which has sought to position itself as tech-minded under Obama. A statement on the White House website notes that there are 500,00 open jobs in IT across the country. It states that 20 communities have signed on to the TechHire Initiative, and hopes events like the meetup will help expand that number.
“Through this event, we want to ‘upgrade’ the ability to include all of us in technology and innovation,” a statement on the White House website says.
The meetup begins at 9 a.m., and will live-streamed here.
