Events Roundup: Explore AI, hackathons and Beta City this September

Check out tech events to start off the fall in Baltimore, from morning panels to nighttime networking.

Fall is here, and the Baltimore tech events circuit is back with a host of happenings, from casual meetups to one of the biggest tech showcases of the year.

Baltimore Code and Coffee

Fearless software engineer Joe Tseng launched the new meetup in August. While there are lots of meetups focused on specific technical tools, Tseng told Fearless’ blog that Code and Coffee is a “lot less rigid and informal, so it’s for people to work on hobbies whether it be personal or professional.” It also provides a place for people to talk about what they’re working on, or learn more about tech career paths.

Artificial Intelligence – Reimagining Business with AI

MNI Targeted Media Senior VP of Digital Matthew Fanelli will discuss the genesis of artificial intelligence, its implications for the marketplace and how it is changing business. The event is organized by MNI and American Advertising Federation Baltimore.

World Trade Center Institute’s AGILE Series: Global Innovations in Consumer Loyalty

Experts and thought leaders in brands and marketing will share stories of building and inspiring a customer-centric approach, across functions including such as product design, development, sales, services and operations. Speakers for this event include Mary Steinebrunner, the managing director of Dunlop Protective Footwear, and Tabata Gomez, the VP of marketing of global tools and storage for Stanley Black & Decker. Following the talks, stick around for cocktails and conversations.

HopHacks

The fall edition of the biannual student hackathon at Johns Hopkins University features tracks in MS Macro, MossTrack (focusing on collaboration and open source solutions for cities) and more. Any student enrolled at a university is welcome.

Baltimore Metro Business Development

The group brings professionals from across the region and industries together for regular events. This month’s session features a panel discussion on business development and networking with I95 Business Publisher Vicki Franz, Waterfront Tech Series Founder Laura Gaworecki, Think CIO Ed Mullin, The Alternative Board Owner Denise O’Neill and Offit Kurman Director of Business Development Jim Ries.

Waterfront Tech Series: EdTech K-12

Episode 9 of the event series explores how technology is playing a role for K-12 students and teachers, from cloud computing to game-based learning to social media. Panelists include Allovue CEO Jess Gartner, Gilman School Director of Technology Tye Campbell and Code in the Schools CEO Gretchen LeGrand.

Beta City 2019

Betamore’s annual celebration of tech and entrepreneurship gathers the community at City Garage in Port Covington for a VC pitch competition and VIP event, followed by The Main Event featuring tech demos, networking and more. For startups interested in taking the stage, applications for the pitch competition are open through Sept. 13.

MedHacks

The student-run medical hackathon and design competition at Johns Hopkins University brings technologists together with medical experts and students to create new solutions over 36 hours.
