At the TEDxWilmington “Education Possible” event in early February, cofounder of New York On Tech Jessica Santana talked about growing up in Brooklyn, never knowing that a career in tech was a possibility for Latino kids like her. She didn’t realize it until she was in college — too late, when many disadvantaged kids don’t go to college.
Events like Delaware Tech’s trio of STEM Expos every spring, now in its fifth year — are aimed at middle-school and high-school students who may or may not know that there are many opportunities for them in STEM fields. Some of those fields have a shortage of skilled applicants to choose from, virtually guaranteeing a well-paying job for students who study those fields.
The first DTCC STEM Expo will be at the Georgetown campus on March 15 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Jason Technology Center Gymnasium. On March 22, from 5:30–8 p.m., the Expo will be at the Stanton campus in the Stanton Gymnasium.
These are free events, no registration required. Click here for directions and further details.
