Drexel University will merge three programs to create its new College of Computing and Informatics. The college aims to be a hub for fields like big data, cybersecurity and software development. It will begin enrolling students in Fall 2014, according to a release.
The creation of the school is the latest in a number of efforts on Drexel’s part to emphasize technology and entrepreneurship. These efforts include:
- the opening of the $12.5 million Close School of Entrepreneurship
- the launch of Drexel Ventures, a seed fund and business incubator with a goal to fight brain drain
- the launch of the ExCITe Center, a music and technology research lab
