Capital One wants to brainstorm more ideas for its family finance program, where family members can share a credit card to improve communication and data use around the program. To do this, it plans to host the Code <FAM/> Hackathon on November 4-5, with plenty of family-friendly activities. The event will be held at the National Union Building.

The basic concept of Capital One’s family plan is that it allows each member to build credit, provides a chance to educate younger family members and also offers rewards at certain milestones. Capital One is challenging participants to come up with ways to enhance the education program, or more creatively distribute rewards. Another result could be coming with up with new ways to make the system easier to use. If participants come in with an idea, they can implement it themselves, or people who show up without an idea can join a team that might already have a plan.

The prizes for the event are $50,000 in total, with a $25,000 first place prize, a $15,000 second place prize and a $10,000 third place prize. Even if you don’t win one of the prize with three zeroes, you can get something out of the event by being one of the first 100 people to show up and getting a goodie bag. Not to mention that the event also offers massages, games like giant Jenga and cornhole and a late-night ice cream bar, along with other “gourmet food.”

If you would like to participate, all you need to do is register, bring a laptop and a sleeping bag.
