The third annual White House LGBTQ Tech & Innovation Summit is happening today, and there’s a whole mini-delegation of participants from Brooklyn.
In past years, the Summit has focused on tackling social issues such as prison reform and access to jobs. (Here’s Recode’s recap of last year’s summit.)
Last month, the White House issued an open call for nominations for participants.
“We are looking for a mix of technologists, including engineers, data scientists, designers, entrepreneurs, product and marketing specialists,” the entry form read. “Please note that all nominees should be LGBTQ, team players and outside the box thinkers.”
In all, 157 participants were chosen, and 12 of them hail from Brooklyn. Here’s the list:
- Erica Anderson, partnerships manager, Google News Lab
- Freddie Bologno, mobile product and engagement manager, DoSomething.org
- Sophie DeBenedetto, web development instructor, The Flatiron School
- Leah Gilliam, vice-president of education and innovation, Girls Who Code
- Sarah Glowa-Kollisch, director of policy and evaluation, New York City Health + Hospitals
- Angela Hickman, product manager, Timshel
- Datrianna Meeks, senior UX designer, American Express
