Washington, D.C.-based Brainsy, a tech startup that helps trade organizations and other niche groups put together networks of commentary-ready experts, launched a new vertical on Jan. 30 called Who’s Who in Ophthalmology to showcase and connect people in the industry.

Technical.ly DC previously reported on the startup which was founded in 2011 by Relay Foods founder Zach Buckner. Current Brainsy CEO Brian Christie continues to push the company’s mission forward of giving people access to the world’s experts.

“Professionals in the field of ophthalmology are often confused with optometrists and opticians so we’ve created a dedicated social network for ophthalmologists, their practices, and their affiliates,” Christie said in a statement. “The Who’s Who in Ophthalmology will feature leading personalities and practices and give them a unique set of tools to both share knowledge and highlight their credentials and thought leadership.”

For those wondering what ophthalmology is, it’s the branch of medicine and surgery that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders.  This new vertical will not only showcase and connect ophthalmologists, but it will give patients access to a public directory of providers for general information, a press release states.

“The Who’s Who in Ophthalmology incorporates the best features that modern social media has to offer into one unified place for professionals in our field,” Julia A. Haller, MD Ophthalmologist-in-Chief of Wills Eye Hospital and William Tasman, M.D. Endowed Chair said in a statement. “It will be an invaluable resource for knowledge sharing and peer mentoring.”
