Baltimore moved up eight spots in a study that ranks cities for women in tech.
SmartAsset ranks Baltimore No. 4 in the U.S. for women in tech, which is a big jump from last year’s ranking of 12th.
The study looks at number of tech jobs filled by women, income and the gender pay gap. Each of those held relatively steady in Baltimore.

The big change this year was in the number of tech jobs available in Baltimore.
In 2015, the three-year tech employment “growth” was -3 percent. But this year, it was up 7 percent.
D.C., Kansas City and Detroit were ahead of Baltimore on the list. To climb into that echelon, it looks like Baltimore should focus on eliminating the gender gap. In each of those cities, women make the same or more as men.
Nationwide, SmartAsset also found that the tech workforce remains 75 percent male. In Baltimore, that’s slightly better, with women holding 31.2 percent of tech jobs. But the study still states it is “far from ideal.”
