Here’s where to link up with the Red Bull Amaphiko Academy this week

The Red Bull Amaphiko Academy spread its wings in Baltimore over the weekend, with social innovators from around the country setting up at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center. The weeklong event is looking to showcase Baltimore’s creators and innovators. Along with six of the 14 academy participants being from Baltimore, there are public-facing events throughout the week that shine a light on the community.
Here’s a look at the schedule:

• Red Bull Amaphiko Academy Open House and Gallery Show On Aug. 14, get a look inside the Eubie Blake Cultural Center, where Amaphiko worked with Baltimore artists and makers to transform the space into home base for the Academy. The Monday event features a Made in Baltimore pop-up shop. Art exhibits including “What We Learn While Waiting” by Malaika Clements, Shan Wallace, and LieAnne Navarro and “Notes in Time,” showcasing the work of photographers I. Henry Phillips Sr., Irv Phillips Jr., and Webster Phillips III. The event also features an open mic night.
• Balanced with Brown and Healthy Health and mindful living are in focus at Shake & Bake Family Fun Center on Pennsylvania Ave. on Aug. 15. Lauren Ash, founder of Black Girl in OM, will lead a yoga class. Additional workshops are scheduled from Black Male Yoga Initiative founder (and Amaphiko Academy participant) Changa Bell and CJay Phillip of Dance & Bmore/Movement Lab. Then, there’s an open roller skate jam.
• The Medicine Show with Be Free Fridays The spotlight turns to social innovation and storytelling on Thursday night for this event at Arena Players (801 McCulloh St.) Through music, spoken word, performance and comedy, performers will share stories of the Baltimore’s social entrepreneurs including Joseph Cureton of CORE Staffing, Shantell Roberts of Touching Young Lives and John Shea and Piper Watson of Station North Tool Library, among many others.
• Red Bull Amaphiko Festival The week concludes at Impact Hub Baltimore on North Ave. with a big festival from 3-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 20. Outside, there’s a full day of music with Abdu Ali, Bond St. District and the Deep Sugar dance party to close things out at the surface lot next to Centre Theatre. YNot Lot has a showcase of Academy participants and local makers. Inside Impact Hub, there are talks throughout the day including a student photojournalism showcase and session with Afropunk Festival cofounder Jocelyn Cooper.
