He’s about to do a book tour with 150 stops to mark the occasion, and now Brooklynite to follow and reddit founder Alexis Ohanian is raising money for all the teachers working on STEM education programs on DonorsChoose.
He’s launched a Prizeo campaign, with a goal of $50,000. One donor will be chosen for a year of mentorship with Ohanian and someone else involved with Y Combinator — plus a dinner in New York with Mr. 4 Hour Work Week himself, Tim Ferriss.
The campaign is a part of a larger promotion for Ohanian’s new book, Without Their Permission: How the 21st Century Will Not Be Managed.
The campaign page doesn’t actually list all the projects, but a check on Donors Choose suggests that some of the projects he must be looking at funding include:
- Simple Machines Make Life Easier
- Copies of G is for Googol for new math library
- Students implement a sustainability program
There are prizes for donating besides just the one year of mentorship. The runner up will get flown out to any of Ohanian’s tour stops. Winners of these two prizes will be randomly selected from all the donors, but the more you give the more entries you get in the contest.
There’s also a limited number of prizes that he’s giving out, and they’re decidedly quirky. Like, he’ll call you for five minutes and do his Bane impersonation. Or he’ll write you a haiku.
Without Their Permission comes out tomorrow Oct. 1st. The campaign ends Oct. 31st.
