Cole Ryan, a Wilmington entrepreneur and the cofounder of brand strategy and design firm Hedrick, founded Cause.Work, a digital job board for nonprofits and social ventures, last summer. The platform was made to connect companies that met its ethical criteria and talent looking for companies to work for that are beneficial to the world in some way. That includes charity and humanitarian nonprofits, B corporations, education orgs and companies that make renewable energy, or at least don’t actively cause harm to health or the environment.

From the start, environment and sustainable companies were central to the platform. Now, Cause.Work has had a rebrand, including changing its name to Caus.

The original platform was broad, with a green-yellow-red grading system that kept companies that didn’t meet the ethical criteria out of its listings. No single cause was singled out originally, but after months of running the platform and listening to the customers, Ryan found that one cause in particular most prioritized: climate.

“We really believe that the climate crisis is the most pressing issue facing our world today,” the founder said. “And when we looked at many of the causes represented on Cause.Work’s platform, we noticed many — if not all — were affected by our environment. So we wanted to build a platform specifically designed to help climate-focused teams.”

Companies that are already listing on the new platform include Touria, Beyond Meat and the World Wildlife Fund. Listings may include full and part-time jobs, freelance gigs and projects, and can be searched by remote only.

Other new features include increased ability to manage posts for employers and a new option for purchasing single job posts rather than requiring a monthly plan. As before, Caus donates 2% of its revenue toward removing CO2 from the atmosphere through its partnership with Stripe Climate.
