11 Delaware events to celebrate Women’s History Month 2020

March is Women’s History Month, the official month of — as the Library of Congress puts it — “commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.”

There are plenty of events throughout Delaware this month to help you celebrate, from book clubs to expos. Here are 11 standouts:

  • Sunday, March 8Great Women in History: Women in the Military at Rockwood, featuring local honorees and speakers, historical displays and activities. At The Carriage House at Rockwood Park
  • Sunday, March 8 International Women’s Day Celebration featuring Purusha Rivera, founder of My Baby’s Heartbeat Bear. At Hallmark Gold Crown, 320 Center Blvd. in Newark
  • Wednesday, March 11Food and Film with Friends-RBG. Watch the film about the life and career of unexpected pop culture icon U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Free, including lunch, at the Claymont Library
  • Thursday, March 12The Well-Read Black Girls Book Club. This free monthly book club held at the Delaware Art Museum Bookstore returns this month with a discussion of “Making Our Way Home: The Great Migration and the Black American Dream” by Blair Imani
  • Saturday, March 14Women’s Wellness and Business Conference 2020. A conference for woman entrepreneurs looking to start and scale their businesses while also prioritizing self-care. At Dover Downs Hotel & Casino
  • Thursday, March 19Her Story, Our History — A Women’s History Month Celebration. A semi-formal event celebrating the achievements of women in business and community changemakers throughout history, hosted by the Women’s Business Center at True Access Capital. The WBC will be honoring 10 Delaware and Pennsylvania Women who are doing outstanding things in their businesses and communities. At the Hilton Christiana
  • Saturday, March 2110th Annual Delaware Women’s Expo at Nassau Valley Vineyards in Lewes
  • Saturday, March 21 Muslimaat Business Expo, a business expo for Muslim women. At the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Wilmington, 4727 Concord Pike
  • Wednesday, March 25PUSHOUT: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools, a feature-length documentary that examines the educational, judicial and societal disparities facing Black girls. Inspired by the book by Monique W. Morris, Ed.D. Free, at the Rt 9 Library Innovation Center
