Great Dames, the Delaware-based women’s networking organization, and Wilmington University President Dr. LaVerne T. Harmon, named a Great Dames “Icon,” will be awarding full four-year scholarships to two graduating female high school seniors planning to attend WilmU next fall.
2020 Great Dames Scholarship Program will select two girls based on community involvement and volunteerism, academic performance, extracurricular activities and financial need.
Dr. Harmon was selected the fourth president of WilmU in 2017, becoming the first African-American woman university president in Delaware history. On her inauguration day in 2018, she said one of her primary visions was to create more scholarship opportunities. Among WilmU’s other scholarships is the STAR Scholarship, which covers partial tuition for students who earned a tuition-free associates degree via Delaware’s SEED Program with at least a 3.5 grade point average at a community college or University of Delaware Associate in Arts Program.
Applications for the scholarship are due by Feb. 14. The two awardees will be announced in March and will receive the awards at a formal awards ceremony in April.-30-
