Yet another Buccini Pollin Group project is coming to downtown Wilmington: This time, the group is partnering with Chelsea Tavern to transform the Ernest & Scotts Taproom into game-themed eatery and bar, complete with a duckpin bowling alley and a pinball arcade.

The Ernest & Scotts Taproom has been located in the historic Wilmington Trust building at 902 N. Market St. since 2012. When its founder, Scott Morrison, who also founded Chelsea Tavern on Market Street, passed suddenly in 2016, Joe Van Horn of Open Doors Hospitality Group purchased both restaurants. He will continue to run them as the 5,700-square-foot Taproom gets a new identity.

“I am proud to have kept Morrison’s legacy alive at Ernest & Scotts,” said Van Horn in a statement. “He saw the promise of Market Street very early on, and I know he would have been proud to see the growth that Downtown Wilmington has experience recently.”

Renovations for the new project, Wilma’s, will start soon after the last pint is pulled at Ernest & Scott on Jan. 10.

Currently, BPG is also updating the restaurant at The Hotel Du Pont, where the former Green Room will become a French brasserie run by chef/partner Tyler Akin. The development company, which owns a large chunk of Wilmington real estate, is also behind DECO, The Residences at Midtown Square and the 76ers Field House.

While renovations are happening on Wilma’s, Chelsea Tavern, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary (and renovations of its own) this year, will be taking over Ernest & Scotts’ monthly cigar dinners and the Cinco de Mayo block party. Here’s a rundown of happening through next fall at the Chelsea Tavern:

  • Brewery of the Month Pairing Dinners — January through April
  • Super Bowl Party — Sunday, Feb. 2
  • Valentine’s Day Prix Fixe Dinner — Friday, Feb. 14
  • 10th Anniversary Party — Thursday, March 12
  • Monthly Cigar Dinners — May through September
  • Downtown Brew Fest — Saturday, Aug. 9
  • Weekly Geeks Who Drink Trivia & Flight Club on Tuesday Nights
  • Monthly Wilmington History Society Public Meetings
