Breweries are fun to have around, but they also have economic impact in Delaware: In 2018, the state ranked second in the number of gallons of craft beer produced per adult resident over age 21 and ninth in economic impact per capita, according to the Brewers Association.
The Delaware Tourism Office (DTO) launched the Delaware on Tap app in 2017, offering locals and visitors a detailed list of the state’s breweries, distilleries, meaderies and wineries, as well as helping users plan beer-tasting outings with a calendar of events and nearby attractions and accommodations.
The app highly encourages interaction with an in-app “passport” — once you’ve visited and checked in at 10 locations, they’ll send you a prize like a collectible pint glass — plus contests and a photo booth with Delaware on Tap frames for social media sharing, as well as a link to your Uber app, so you can tour safely.
The DTO adds new locations periodically. This month, four new breweries have been added:
- Autumn Arch Beer Project (Newark)
- Brick Works Long Neck (Millsboro)
- Crooked Hammock Brewery (Middletown)
- Thompson Island Brewing Company (Rehoboth Beach)
Another update is geonotifications. These push notifications, which you can opt out of in the app’s settings, will let you know what’s going on nearby.
“The Delaware on Tap app has opened up a fun, creative way to explore the leading Delaware hotspots for craft beverage,” said DTO Director Liz Keller in a press release. “And with the new locations and geonotification feature, the possibilities are even broader. We’re especially excited to be rolling out these additions during the most festive time of year.”
