The Delaware unemployment rate falls below 3.3% for the first time in three decades

A drop in Delaware unemployment from 16,100 in March to 15,800 in April has brought the unemployment rate to its lowest in 30 years, Delaware Public Media reports.

The history was made, according to DPM, with a tiny one-tenth of a percent dip from 3.3% to 3.2%. The state has hit 3.3% 10 times in the last three decades, never going any lower until April.

Some noticeable biz movements we’ve noticed in recent months:

• Companies like Acorns, now with an office at The Mill, are bringing new jobs to Delaware, and locally established companies like Christiana Care, JPMorgan Chase, Beebe, Nemours, CSC, Perdue, Gore and DuPont (making a comeback) all have job openings right now, sometimes in the triple digits.
• Programs like APEX, the Delaware Department of Labor program that helps individuals with criminal histories through the pardon or expungement process, and tech education programs like ITWorks and Zip Code Wilmington, are going strong.
• Approximately 100 new jobs were created in April with the launch of the DE.CO food hall in downtown Wilmington.
