This Week in Jobs: Like Disney World for tech lovers

It’s a small world after all when Philly Tech Week comes around.

Editor’s note: Every week we ship an email newsletter featuring the region’s most exciting career opportunities. We’ve lovingly called it This Week in Jobs (aka TWIJ — “twidge.”). Below is this week’s edition. Here’s the last one we published; it’s meant to live in your inbox. Sign up for the newsletter here.

Jake Peralta: “It’s the most fun day of the year. Something you wouldn’t understand because you’re not programmed to feel joy.”

Captain Holt: “Yes, but my software is due for an exuberance upgrade.”

The Final Countdown!

Remember when you were a kid and your parents surprised you with a vacation to the dream destination that is Orlando, Florida? And as soon as you found out the trip was booked you started marking off the days on your X-Men calendar?

Well call us Mom and Dad and pull out your planner, because we’ve got a countdown to something even more exciting than high-fiving Mickey Mouse. In just 17 days YOU’RE GOING TO PHILLY TECH WEEK.

Like Disney World, PTW 2019 (presented by Comcast) is full of magic and delight, like the Dev Conference on May 8, featuring games aplenty, giveaways galore, and speakers from companies such as GoogleGrubHub and Monetate.

So make sure to grab a $20 general admission ticket to Dev Conference here (before it sells out!) and read on for more sweet little tidbits about our fave week of the year, this year from May 3 to 11.

The News

Sweet tidbit numero uno: Out of the 75 (soon to be 100+) meticulously planned events at Philly Tech Week, we’ve put together a list of 10 community engagements and a roundup of our staple events that you won’t want to miss.

A star is born! Serial fans will be fascinated to know that the chair and professor of the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at University of Delaware Erik Ervin, Ph.D., was tapped to help filmmakers of HBO docuseries, “The Case Against Adnan Syed.” As the closest turf grass physiologist to Baltimore, Ervin was tasked with trying to establish evidence concerning victim Hae Min Lee’s car and the grassy lot on which it was found after her disappearance. Might be a good time to take a look at all of the surprisingly exciting careers available at UD.

Time for HealthVerity to go buy new pants, because the healthcare data company just had a growth spurt. The Center City-based company currently employs a team of 48, but after pulling in $25 million in Series C funding, it’ll most certainly be scaling up its hiring game — just check out the more than a dozen roles currently found on its careers page.

The Jobs

Remember their names, because many of the companies we feature in our weekly jobs roundups will be at PTW19.

Engineers, it takes all kinds. Pick your poison:

Specialists across the tech spectrum, check these roles out:

The End

Emoji lovers, rejoice! Our daily job board now features fun little icons that represent all of the benefits offered within the job post. Check it out when you need a little more from your employer.

Well that’s all for this week, folks. Thanks for joining us, see you in seven days — at which point the PTW countdown will only be 10 days. Math! And as always, happy job hunting!
