NERDiT NOW, the gadget repair shop known for its repurposed ambulance service vehicle, upgraded its brick-and-mortar on Dec. 5th, when it officially opened its new First State Plaza location in Stanton.
The New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, along with Vince DiFelice, who leads the venture support team for Horn Entrepreneurship, were in attendance while founder Markevis Gideon ceremoniously cut the ribbon on the new store.
The space was formerly home to a Game Stop location so, in order to help gamers fill the void, the new NERDiT NOW will also carry games and game consoles.
While the small company – which funded its previous Stanton storefront in part through its second-place Hen Hatch win in 2016 – repairs computers, phones and other devices, Gideon’s true mission is to put computers into the hands of underresourced youth.
Since starting the business three years ago, he’s refurbished donated computers to give away to members of the community for free.
“In 2018, we’ve been able to donate 102 computers through our NERDiT Foundation,” said Jake Voorhees, who works with Gideon as the company’s Marketing Director. “These go to community centers and nonprofits that have a youth and underrepresented demographic focus.”
The event doubled as an anniversary celebration for NERDiT NOW, which started in Gideon’s two-bedroom apartment three years ago, and – driving home its community and family-focused model – included a gender reveal for Gideon and his wife Kristen’s first child.-30-
