Thursday, October 11 is International Day of the Girl, officially declared by the United Nations in 2011. The celebration of girlhood won’t end there in Wilmington, though, with a full-day girls’ conference on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m at Grace United Methodist Church in Wilmington.
Hosted by One Village Alliance, the “Girls Can Do Anything!” Leadership Conference is all about inspiring girls aged 9 to 17 to reach their full potential, including breakout sessions throughout the day, called “Sessions in Socks,” where girls are encouraged to wear colorful socks while they discuss various topics, including:
- Girl Fight for Good! Advocacy, Activism & Social Justice
- Reimagining Beautiful: Self Love, Sisterhood & Social Media
- S.T.E.A.M College & Career Pathing
- Celebrity in ME! Confidence, Purpose & Poise
- Girl Powered Business: Social Entrepreneurship
Registration is now open for $10. The event features vendors and exhibitors, and volunteers to be mentors and role models.-30-
