The Delaware Burger Battle returns for its seventh year on Saturday, Aug. 25, offering more all-you-can-eat burger samples than ever before, with nearly 20 Delaware chefs getting in on the action.

These burger artists will compete for trophies in three categories: Critic’s Choice, Best Alternative Burger and the People’s Choice trophy, selected by attendee vote.

The Burger Battle has cemented itself as a top foodie event in Delaware over the last few years, and it’s all for a good cause. All proceeds are to be divided between the Food Bank of Delaware and the ProStart Program of the Delaware Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, which teaches high-school students hands-on culinary and restaurant management skills.

“Since 2012, I have been committed to making the guest experience top notch, and making the experience for the competing restaurants equally satisfying,” said Battle founder JulieAnne Cross. “I balance that with trying to maximize the charitable donation. That’s what my team members and I use to measure every decision made about Delaware Burger Battle. And because of this, the event only gets better every year.”

Past winners Maiale Deli & Salumeria, Chelsea Tavern, Home Grown Café, Redfire Grill + Steakhouse and Ulysses Gastropub will return for 2018, as well as Battle vets Tonic Bar and GrillDrip Café, Metro Grill & Pub and 2 Fat Guys. There’s also a bevy of newbies to the competition, including Farmer & The CowBonefish GrillUniversity & Whist Club, Lefty’s Alley & Eats, Market Kitchen & Bar, Ted’s Montana Grill, Sherm’s Catering and the Food Bank of Delaware.

For $50 ($60 at the door — if they don’t sell out), you get virtually endless burger samples, plus beer and wine; Teens are $30, including samples and soft drinks; kids 5–12 are $10; and children under 5 are free.
