Levitea tea shop pops up at DCAD Aug. 9

Levitea Lounge returns for one evening only — and possibly more.

When Tynisha Lomax closed down the Levitea Lounge at 9th and Tatnall in 2017, she decided to make a more digital pivot for her tea business.

With the help of hours of mentoring via the Spark Challenge, an entrepreneurial mentoring program that culminates with a business plan and pitch, she developed the Levitea brand beyond her own expectations.

Still, having another brick-and-mortar lounge was the dream, even if not as the main part of the business.

This week, Lomax will have that opportunity (albeit a brief one) with the Levitea Pop Up Tea Shop at DCAD. Coinciding with the grand opening event of the Residences at Mid-Town Park, you can enjoy tea in lots of ways — hot, iced, or in a specialty drink (you’ll have to show up to find out what they are). There will also be baked goods by Dan Tagle and music by Tribe of Vibes. It takes place from 3–8 p.m.

Levitea teas are blended by Lomax and are exclusive enough to be served in the Hotel DuPont Green Room. In addition to ready-to drink teas, you’ll also be able to purchase loose leaf teas, the new Levitea tea bags and accessories.

“I’m trying to make this permanent,” said Lomax, who has held on to her storefront roots with the occasional Levitea Lounge event at Studio on Market.

If you like the idea of a cool, arty tea shop downtown permanently, make it a point to stop by the pop-up and say as much.
