Wilmington Renaissance Corporation to kick off 25th anniversary at The Queen

The year the Wilmington Renaissance Corporation was founded, 1993, was a big year for the city: It was the year the Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball team was established, the first Clifford Brown Jazz Festival was held and Brew Ha Ha opened its first shop. The Woolworth’s building on North Market was still a Woolworth’s. The Ninth Street Book Shop was open. And remember the Barn Door?

There was no Delaware College of Art & Design, no live/work artists lofts, no such thing as the LOMA District or Creative District, no Rock Lot, NextFab Wilmington or Wilmington Grand Prix.

There was also no renovated Queen theater, which will host WRC’s 25th Anniversary Annual Meeting on the morning of May 16 from 7:30–9:30 a.m. The meeting is open to the public (but not free — tickets are $90), and will update attendees on WRC’s core strategic initiatives, including a new focus on attracting businesses to Wilmington’s downtown corridor. And, of course, there will be networking.

Speakers will include WRC Board Chair Glenn Moore, WRC Managing Director Dr. Carrie W. Gray and Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki with the keynote.
