Really, what is entrepreneurship if it doesn’t involve sharp-toothed fish metaphors?

Junior Achievement of Delaware has been doing competitive entrepreneurship for years, but on April 18, they dialed it up with the inaugural Barracuda Bowl Regional Competition.

Seven JA companies from New Castle and Kent Counties, as well as Salem County, N.J., participated.

Over the last several months, the JA companies operated their own small ventures. At the event, JA volunteer–facilitated sessions included coaching, critiquing, judging and interviewing student company members sharing successes and challenges.

All seven companies made PowerPoint presentations and submitted financial statements, along with marketing, sales plans and goals.

The winning JA company, as selected by event judge Jason Swift, COO of Marlette Funding, was Snappy Solutions, which will now submit an annual report and company commercial for an opportunity to be invited to compete in the National Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., in June.

Starrchild Jackson, president of Snappy Solutions, also earned his way to receiving a $1,000 scholarship during the event, as well as the title of “2018 President of the Year.”

Last year, Delaware sent D2BU, a team of young women who came together at the Microsoft Store Christiana Mall to run a social awareness brand company promoting their message through the sale of T-shirts, to the National Student Leadership Summit.
