Dew Point launches holiday brew with a Delaware twist

The Yorklyn brewery launched “Forest Pizelle” over the weekend and we had to give it a try.

After Saturday’s snowfall, Sunday was a beautiful day for heading out to Dew Point Brewery to try its newest beer: “Forest Pizelle,” inspired by the thin Italian cookies laced with anise.
The official description:

An English floor-malted Heritage Malt, spices, American hops and an English ale yeast yields complex fruity, cracker, citrus, anise flavors and aromas. The star of this ale is the Delaware State herb, goldenrod (solidago odero), that was foraged by the Delaware state botanist from a local forest. A shout out to Bill McAvoy!
Alcohol content 5.1%
28 IBU

An intriguing description, for sure. And more evidence that Dew Point is striving to be the most Delaware-branded local brewery.
It’s not just niche ingredients like locally foraged goldenrod and the eclipse-harvested cascade hops from Greenview Farms in its wet-hopped saison “Cloudy Eclipse.” Dew Point cofounder Nick Matarese, also the founder of The Barn Creative, wants to keep Dew Point as local as possible, even when it comes to items like stickers and beer taps, which are designed and made at NextFab Wilmington.
But back to the beer. “Forest Pizelle” tastes surprisingly like its name, with a foresty, almost piney flavor with anise undertones and a pleasant spiciness. It’s a Christmas beer if there ever was one, smooth and not overwhelmingly hoppy (one thing I love about Dew Point in general — their beers, even the IPAs, never taste like a mouthful of hops).
Dew Point’s tasting room is open every day but Tuesday. Click here for more info.
