Meet the blogger behind Delaware Arts Info

Michelle Kramer-Fitzgerald saw a need in 2009 and did something about it. “I like to support and enjoy all the wonderful arts and culture opportunities in and around Wilmington.”

It was 2009, and Michelle Kramer-Fitzgerald saw a need. Delaware’s arts community was growing, but there was a lack of outlets for small arts organizations and individual artists to gain exposure. As the owner of Arts in Media, a Delaware-based arts publicity company that manages promotions, print, web and social media for about 10 clients in Delaware, it made things difficult — and she knew it wasn’t just a challenge for her own clients.
So she did what people with a passion do — she registered for a blog account and started the platform she was looking for: Delaware Arts Info, a blog that covered the local arts in a way no one else did.
“It was actually my first foray into blogdom,” said Kramer-Fitzgerald. “After talking at a Melomanie concert with one of my original bloggers — writer, musician and arts enthusiast Margaret Darby — we launched  in May of 2009, with myself and three ‘founding blogsters.'”
Delaware musicians, artists, patrons and writers (including this reporter, full disclosure, in the early ’10s) covered the concerts, the small gallery openings and the one-night dance and theater performances that lacked press coverage, as well as local arts staples like Delaware Theater Company and OperaDelaware.
“Our first year, we posted one hundred pieces, promoting everything from choral music to visual arts, theater, classical music, jazz and more,” said Kramer-Fitzgerald. “Now we have posts from regular and guest bloggers who cover any and just about every genre of artistic happening — even arts events up and down the state.”
It’s really no surprise, then, that her spare time is filled with the arts as much as her business and blog are. “I like to support and enjoy all the wonderful arts and culture opportunities in and around Wilmington,” Kramer-Fitzgerald said. “Concerts, theater, restaurants, museums, cool creative people. My husband Scott and I frequent Wilmington Art Loops, hit the Queen or 1984 for great local music, and enjoy some of our favorite culinary hangouts like Merchant Bar, Chelsea Tavern and Goat.”
With seemingly every aspect of her life devoted to the arts in Delaware, she’s full of suggestions for summer cultural experiences in Wilmington:
“There are plenty of ‘can’t miss’ ArtStuff happenings this summer, including Delaware Shakespeare’s Henry V; Gable Music Ventures’ Ladybug Festival, and the Riverfront Blues Festival. But also keep your eyes and ears open for events from 8th Avenue Artist Collective, ArtzScape and Artist Ave Station — all in Wilmington!”
