As a recent graduate of Delaware Tech and current analyst for Warren Energy in West Grove, Pa., William J. “BJ” Vanover knows the value of a STEM education.
Delaware Tech’s energy management program at its Stanton campus is “cutting edge,” says Vanover, a Newark resident with roots in Oxford, Pa. “I feel that the value of the education I received is second to none. It prepared me for success in every way possible.”
As a followup to the associate’s degree he received from Delaware Tech, Vanover is currently getting his undergraduate degree in energy and environmental policy at the University of Delaware.
We chatted with Vanover about his work and what he’s excited about.
What was the most vital thing you learned in the energy management program?
If I had to narrow it down to one thing, I would say the Microsoft Office skills I learned in the program were the most vital element of my education. It allows me to take the things I’ve learned and apply them to real-life situations.
What are you working on right now?
At Warren Energy Engineering, I primarily conduct measurement and verification activities on energy efficiency projects for large scale utilities.
What are some tech concepts that inspire you?
I’m excited about battery technology. Energy storage technology could push renewable technologies over the hump and drastically diminish our dependence on fossil fuels. Liquid battery technology that is being developed at MIT is very interesting — I look forward to what the future brings.
