Delaware College of Art and Design is hosting a free bootcamp in web design

The Delaware College of Art and Design is giving students the opportunity to learn about user experience design and front-end development, during a multi -weekend bootcamp this summer.
The intensive program takes place June 2 to June 3, June 23 to June 24 and July 14. The bootcamp is free to students, but space is limited. DCAD is only accepting 15 students and five of those spots are reserved for DCAD interns.
The deadline to apply is May 12.

DCAD Co-op Program Coordinator Tracey Mulveny said the target applicant for this program is any student who is interested in web design and looking to expand their skills. She also said being assertive and willing to hustle are necessary for participants to be successful.
“Strengthening students’ skill set independent of their economic situation is in line with DCAD’s commitment to the community — both young people and businesses,” she explained. “The requirement for participation in this boot camp is assertiveness and hustle. A student must complete a set of pre-work after registration on our web site to demonstrate commitment and aptitude. Students can’t miss a single camp day, or they’re out.”
Throughout the bootcamp, students will learn UX fundamentals and have sessions on HTML 5/CSS 3, Bootstrap, PHP and Javascript. At the end of bootcamp, students will have designed a four-part, working page. In between the afternoon and morning sessions, students will take part in tech talks with real industry professionals, including Capital One creative director and DCAD alumnus Bradford Wason.
“We like the intensive bootcamp format that’s become so popular for this subject matter because it’s like learning a new language. Being immersed is the best way,” Mulveny said.
Mulveny also said the multi-weekend format allows  bootcamp instructors, who are donating their time this summer, to be involved with the program without having to take too much time off from their full-time positions.
For now the DCAD team is keeping the bootcamp small. They are holding classes in one of the Mac labs at DCAD. Once the pilot session is complete, the staff will evaluate the experience and potentially expand the program next year.
