Middletown residents can now go grocery shopping from the comfort of their own living rooms. Late last month, Walmart, located on Warwick Road, began offering an online grocery shopping and pickup service.
The superstore is the first in the state to offer the service, which is free for customers who place an order of at least $30.  There are only five other stores in the Greater Philadelphia region currently offering online shopping and pickup.
Walmart’s local market manager Bubba Bohra said this new service is a game-changer for consumers.
“They are now able to complete their grocery shopping in a matter of minutes — between errands or on their way home from an after-school activity — without even unbuckling their seat belts,” Bohra said in a statement.
Using the service is simple. Customers can place their order through the website or Walmart app, select a pickup time and location and a store associate will handle the rest. Once a customer arrives at the pickup site, their groceries will be brought out to the vehicle.
Middletown store manager Kingsley Ohene said the store has received a lot of positive feedback from customers.
“We have been getting a lot of compliments every day,” Ohene said in a phone interview. “We have had close to 200 people use the service so far.”
He also mentioned that the store has been meeting their cap, or maximum number of orders, since the second day of offering online ordering.
“We have a maximum number of orders we are able to fill per day,” Ohene explained. “We started out at 30 and then pushed it to 40. We keep meeting our cap, so know we are working with our market manager to see if we can increase the number again.”
