In today’s classroom, there are opportunities to teach with hundreds of constantly developing digital technologies. From digital devices to educational software and mobile apps, the potential for teaching applications is extensive. Cue Digital Learning Day.

Since its 2012 inception, Digital Learning Day (DLD) has been used as a venue for educational professionals to highlight great teaching practice and showcase innovative teachers, leaders and instructional technology programs that can improve student outcomes.

According to the Alliance for Excellent Education, the organization that funds Digital Learning Day, it began as a grassroots movement but has grown into a nationwide effort to enhance learning through digital mediums. In Delaware, DLD will be celebrated statewide via a “Tweet-A-Thon” hosted Feb. 23 at 8:30 p.m.

The Tweet-A-Thon is open to all teachers and education professionals and is intended to provide an outlet for sharing lesson plans, helpful tips, and new ways to include technology in Delaware schools. The Delaware education hashtag #Delachat will be used during the event.

So far, Linden Hill Elementary in Pike Creek is the only Delaware school signed up individually to participate in DLD. On that day, every teacher at Linden Hill will try one new digital learning tool, and fifth grade leaders will be running 15-minute technology math games in classrooms.

Other schools around the state are encouraged to sign up for the DLD festivities before Feb. 23 at digitallearningday.org.
