Next month: Meet the UD oceanographer who went on to run analytics at Facebook

UD alum Chandra Narayanan is coming back for a talk.

Thumbs up, y'all. (Photo courtesy of Facebook)

Chandra Narayanan is a University of Delaware alumnus. He went on to work at PayPal, and his current job title is head of analytics for Core App and Instagram at Facebook.
Before working in analytics, Narayanan earned his doctoral degree in oceanography from the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment (CEOE) at UD. Sounds like a large jump in fields, right?
He’s returning to his alma mater to give a lecture on Feb. 9 about his career as it moved from oceanography to the world of analytics. He’ll talk about his time at UD, and how his education went on to shape his career path. The lecture will also move into tech, data science, market strategy and opportunities to work at Facebook.
In a statement to UDaily, CEOE Acting Dean Moshen Badiey said that “Dr. Narayanan’s presence on campus is an opportunity for students to peek behind the curtain of social media analytics and hear from a fellow Blue Hen and leader in this exciting and growing field.”
The talk will be held at Mitchell Hall on UD’s campus, and it’s free. It’s slated to run from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9. Those interested in attending will need to register.
