Another coworking space is opening in Wilmington

But it feels a little different. The Hub at 1201 is a legacy office management company's entrée into the coworking market.

Five years ago, there was only one coworking space in downtown Wilmington, the CoIN Loft. Well, one in the whole state of Delaware.
Boy, have things changed. This will be the year three — that’s right, three — coworking spaces opened in downtown Wilmington. With 1313 Innovation, The Mill and NextFab getting ready to open its doors next year, the Hub at 1201 will become the fifth space to open its doors in the city and it will be managed by Stat International.
The commercial space management company has been around since 1984. It also just experienced a leadership change last year when executive operations manager Linda Grund retired and was succeeded by Lori Davis.
The Hub at 1201 will have its grand opening and ribbon cutting on the eighth floor on Dec. 1 at 4 p.m.

You might recognize the building this coworking space is housed in as One Commerce Place, the same building the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce is headquartered. (Stat manages the Chamber’s building.) It remains to be seen, but our impression is that this coworking space will be more corporate than Wilmington’s first few coworking spaces, which felt more grassroots and community-oriented.
The building is also right across the street from Corporation Trust Center’s offices at 1209 N. Orange Street, an address that is also used to incorporate companies like Apple, American Airlines, Walmart, Coca Cola and most recently Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump’s campaigns.
We tried to reach Stat but didn’t hear back yet.
What does it mean that a commercial space management company is getting into the coworking game in Wilmington? For one, it suggests that the local tech scene has grown to the point where others — more traditional companies, ones you might not normally think of when you think of innovation — want to jump in and ride the wave.
Oh, and here’s a video invite from Stat executive operations manager Davis:
