Swim with the Sharks sounds like a risky event, but if you’re a fan of the show Shark Tank, you know not to be scared.

Swim with the Sharks is an entrepreneurial video pitch contest organized by the Emerging Enterprise Center. Now in its fourth year, the contest offers a prize package of $5,000, a free one-year membership to the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, an intensive coaching program that includes three-month membership to the EEC incubator and access to other workshops.

EEC will begin accepting applications starting Friday. The deadline to submit is Sept. 12. Once the videos are submitted, a few handpicked submissions will be posted for online voting.

Apply

The winner will be announced at the EEC annual luncheon at World Cafe Live at the Queen on Sept. 23.

“A part of this whole advocacy piece is promoting that there are entrepreneurial opportunities here in Delaware,” said EEC director Frank DeSantis. “Whatever we can do to make people aware of the support that is available to them, the better off we are as an economic community.”

Any company with a business license in the New Castle Chamber’s service area — New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties, South Jersey, Cecil County, Md., and Southeastern Pennsylvania — is eligible to apply and can submit an application through a three-minute video. The business must have been in business for less than three years.

Previous winners of the program include companies like Deer Valley Danes, Numbers Bee and Carvertise.
