Hey, small businesses (and really, any-size local businesses): The Delaware College of Art and Design (DCAD) is unveiling a new internship initiative for its students, and it’s actively looking for local partners.
Launching next fall, the co-operative education program aims to line up two paid internships for graphic and interior design majors between their first and second years at the school.
Students who land internships in Wilmington will be be offered discounted housing at DCAD’s residence halls, along with a meal plan.
DCAD created the co-op with the hope of better preparing its students for real-world employment and to also showcase students’ skill-sets, said Renee Garnick, DCAD’s director of development.
“The most exciting part is that the students are gaining this valuable experience,” Garnick said, “but also are representing DCAD and creating an opportunity for us to grow our relationship with the Wilmington community.”
She added that if some businesses don’t have paid internships in their budget, she’d still welcome companies having workshops or speak on a panel at the school.
