Wilmington resident wins ‘Remarkable Ideas’ pitch competition [Startup Roundup]

WHO’S GETTING BUZZ?

First Lady Carla Markell announced Tanya N. Whye of Wilmington as the winner of Great Dames’ Remarkable Ideas “Shark Tank” style pitch competition. Whye’s concept, “Delaware Green Mattress Disassembling & Recycling,” earned her a $25,000 award. Fisker Automotive is in talks with Delaware and four other states about where to make its vehicles in the future, according to a News Journal report. Fisker partnered with a California company to create software for the plug-in hybrid’s relaunch. “We are talking with five total states in incentives and what states are good and bad. We will make the decision end of year or first of 2015. Wanxiang wants us to go to Delaware but we must decide on our own,” said Fisker president Roger Brown. Fisker has not decided whether it will utilize its former facility near Newport, Del.

The University of Delaware Horn Program in Entrepreneurship recently honored Dan Sullivan, founder and president of The Strategic Coach Inc., where he has personally coached more than 6,000 entrepreneurs from 60 different industries. He was honored at the Wilmington Country Club as the first recipient of the Siegfried Award for Entrepreneurial Leadership, an award recognizing a person or group for their remarkable contributions to advancing entrepreneurial leadership. “Dan Sullivan is a true entrepreneur who is also extremely focused on helping other entrepreneurs become more effective,” said Rob Siegfried, CEO and president of The Siegfried Group and chair of the advisory board for the University of Delaware’s Lerner College of Business & Economics.
