Power Moves: Kelly Miller joins FTI Consulting, Excella gets a new VP of strategic growth

Public affairs pro Kelly Miller has left Banner Public Affairs after three years to join FTI Consulting as its senior director. She most recently worked as VP at Banner.

Based in Penn Quarter, FTI is a business advisory and financial consulting firm. As a senior director, Miller will work with FTI’s clients in the telecom, media and technology sectors to help them manage operational changes and mitigate risk.

Miller was a part of the team who helped rebrand Tech Lady Hackathon to Tech, Rebalanced last summer. She still leads communications for the organization today.

Christina Seiden joined Arlington, Virginia-based Excella as its VP of strategic growth. Bringing over 20 years of IT services and management consulting expertise to the company, Seiden will help Excella expand its business to new markets and clients in her new role.

“I have always taken pride in aligning vision and strategy to drive performance and growth while fostering relationships with clients and industry partners,” Seiden said in a statement. “I look forward to not only building off of our current programs and continuing to advance our service delivery but also to target new markets where we can leverage our strengths.”

Seiden was serving as the senior VP of operations for NCI Information Systems before joining Excella.

Reston, Virginia-based Hitachi Vantara Federal has promoted Gary Hix to CTO. Hix previously served as the company’s director of engineering.

Hitachi provides federal government agencies with data-driven services. In this new role, Hix will work closely with the company’s government customers to develop customized tech solutions. He will continue to lead Hitachi’s solutions consultant team, where a team of employees focus on developing customer solutions to help government agencies meet their mission requirements.

Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), a membership and trade association for tech companies, named Brad Schwartz as its acting president and CEO, effective July 1. Schwartz succeeds Bobbie Kilberg, who retired on June 30 after 22 years leading the organization. Kilberg announced her retirement last fall.

“I have full confidence in Brad Schwartz’s leadership, experience, and ability to serve as Acting President and CEO,” Kilberg said in a statement. “As an active Board and Executive Committee Member, Brad is already well-versed in NVTC’s strategic and operational goals and is very knowledgeable about the community that we serve.”

Schwartz has held tech leadership roles in the public and private sector, including previously serving as Reston, Virginia-based Blue Canopy’s president and CEO.

The NVTC board is still in search of a permanent president and CEO for the organization.

Baker brings more than 15 years of experience working in technology leadership roles. Prior to joining VeriToll, she managed technology strategy for large media brands at Perfect Sense Digital.

Sovan Shatpathy has been selected to serve as CTO at Vienna, Virginia-based Navy Federal Credit Union. Shatpathy will lead the financial services organization’s information services department including overseeing Navy Federal’s technology strategy, software engineering services and more. He joins the credit union after five years serving as Amtrak’s CTO.

“I feel very connected to Navy Federal’s mission,” Shatpathy said in a press release. “It’s fulfilling to know our work positively impacts servicemembers, veterans and their families.”

Since closing its $70 million Series B last August, Herndon, Virginia-based HawkEye 360 has added two members to its board of directors. The company welcomed Steve Worley, VP and COO of cybersecurity, training and services within Raytheon Intelligence and Space and Chris Emerson, president and chairman for Airbus U.S. to its board.

“As members of the Board of Directors, they will bolster HawkEye 360’s position as an innovative geoanalytics company and will help push the company to solve hard challenges for our global customers,” said HawkEye 360’s CEO John Serafini in a statement.

Comcast named Mitch Rose as its executive VP of federal government affairs. In this role, Rose will lead the company’s government affairs office in D.C. and oversee Comcast’s interactions with the federal government as well as regulatory efforts with the Federal Communications Commission.

Prior to joining the large corporation, Rose led his own entertainment consulting firm, Mitch Rose Strategic Consulting. He also previously held the position of VP of government relations at The Walt Disney Company and spent 15 years working on Capitol Hill.
