The Arlington Economic Development (AED) agency is partnering with Culpepper Garden to host a pitch competition for healthtech startups.

Culpepper Garden provides affordable housing and services for Arlington, Virginia-based seniors. The organization manages an independent living apartment community for seniors in Ballston, and also has assisted living services.

The Innovation in Health Aging Challenge is looking for healthtech startups focused on improving the lives of low-income adults age 62+ by way of tech innovations. A selection committee comprised of local tech leaders, senior citizen advocates, investors and health care professionals will select five companies to pitch in three different challenge areas:

  • Improving personal health and access to quality care
  • Enabling mobility, connectivity and community
  • Helping seniors learn about and use new technology
Apply to participate

Startups must apply in one of those three challenge areas to be selected. Ultimately, a startup in each category will receive $12,000 in cash to fund their ventures, and winning companies will also get a chance to pilot their tech at Culpepper Garden. If all goes well in the pilot stage, startups can expect to ring in another $12,000 of funding in a year to continue their work at the senior living community.

Applications are open to any company type, from early or seed stage to large corporations, until Friday, Oct. 11. Pitch finalists will be notified by Nov. 4, and the competition will take place on Nov. 18.
