Northern Virginia isn’t the only region getting some attention from Amazon.
The ecommerce giant is set to open an 8,000-square-foot retail space in Northwest D.C., the Washington Business Journal first reported.
WBJ reported that Amazon inked a deal at 14th and Riggs streets NW inside of a mixed-use redevelopment owned by nonprofit health clinic Whitman Walker Health and Fivesquares Development. This property includes a seven-story structure comprised of residential apartments and 60,000 square feet of office space. Some other notable tenants in this space includes Sephora, Bluestone Lane and Parachute Home. In honor of HIV activist and actress Elizabeth Taylor, the development has been named The Liz.
This retail store adds to the list of Amazon action coming to the DMV region. This expansion comes after the ecommerce giant announced its second headquarters is coming to NoVa, opened Amazon bookstores in Georgetown and Bethesda, Maryland, and also launched an Amazon Hub near the University of Maryland College Park campus.
Amazon hasn’t released an official statement on this expansion yet, but those interested can expect to buy Amazon branded books, merchandise and devices in the retail store. The ecommerce giant currently curates four retail concepts including Amazon Books, Amazon 4-star, Amazon Go and Presented by Amazon.
