What the Helvetica
Trigger warning for you font spotters and graphic designers: Six newly renovated Metro stations reopened this week with the wrong font printed on their station pylons. A contractor hired to refurbish the stations on the Blue and Yellow lines reportedly used Helvetica Black, when it should’ve used — duh — Helvetica Bold. The company says it’ll replace the signs at no cost to Metro (we hope with Comic Sans). No word yet on the timeline; good thing we’re here to help you avert your eyes.
Design thinking has a prestigious address. The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Carey Business School joined forces with the Maryland Institute College of Art to introduce a MA/MBA in Design Leadership. Design thinking uses an iterative, collaborative approach to the innovation process — designers use insights from human behavior to build products and services that aren’t just compelling, but technologically and economically feasible. Grads in 2018 reported earning an average salary of $106,375. Read more about the program here.

- Nava is seeking a VP of Engineering to help set the company’s technical strategy and vision, which includes recruiting engineers, working with customers and managing the growing organization. The position is also available in New York City and San Francisco.
- For you two-wheel enthusiasts: Lyft is hiring a Marketing Specialist for its Lyft Bikes team to help develop marketing efforts for Capital Bikeshare. The role at the outset will focus exclusively on helping to grow its Lyft’s Bikes business, but expect it to expand to covering the company’s Lyft Scooters business, too.
- SmartLogic, a web and mobile product development consultancy, is hiring an Operations Manager in Canton. You’ll help oversee administrative, financial, marketing and HR work.
- 14 West is seeking a Software Architect in Baltimore. The company was named one of the city’s top workplaces in 2016, 2017 and 2018 by The Baltimore Sun.
- Vectorworks is looking for a Python Engineer (Software Systems Development) in Columbia.
- Salisbury Management Inc. is hiring a Business Analyst.
- Viget is hiring a Product Designer in Falls Church; the role includes helping clients design and launch complex digital experiences and products.
- If open-source is your thing, Amida Technology Solutions is hiring a Cyber Security Engineer in Chantilly to help build open-source products that collect, reconcile, transform and standardize data for everything from business intelligence to predictive analytics, decision support and user transactions.
- Curiosity Media, the company behind SpanishDict, a language-learning platform, is hiring a Software Engineer (Full Stack) in Arlington.
- For those “who love nothing more than planning, organization and efficiency,” Polarity is hiring a Technical Project Manager in Arlington.
- Critical Mass is hiring a Remote AEM Front End Developer.
- Eagle Creek Software Services is seeking a Remote Senior Salesforce Developer.
- MedCrypt — two words you’d normally hope don’t go together — is looking for a Remote Software Engineer.
