Digital marketing and brand agency REQ announced that it has acquired Internet Marketing Inc. (IMI), a San Diego-based performance marketing agency, for an undisclosed amount.

Founded in D.C. in 2008, REQ offers a suite of digital services for global companies and leaders in tech, real estate, entertainment, government, hospitality, retail and finance. Some of the agency’s D.C.-based tech and startup clients include LifeCents, Savi, Vantage Data Centers, GlyphEd and Monkton, REQ EVP of Public Relations Lisa Throckmorton told Technical.ly. Locally, REQ has also represented Sweetgreen, Chopt, and CAVA in the past.

With this acquisition, REQ will add IMI’s enterprise performance advertising, earned media and social media capabilities to its portfolio, a press release states. This acquisition brings REQ to 120 employees across offices in Tysons, New York, San Diego, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Boston and its D.C. headquarters.

REQ reports that this move will result in an annual revenue of $50 million, and Throckmorton said IMI will now retain the REQ name.

“With expanded resources and coast-to-coast footprint, the combined company will bring a new level of innovation, scale, and creativity to our clients, giving us global reach with regional expertise,” said REQ CEO and founder Tripp Donnelly in a statement. “We know the IMI team, platform, and experience will be a great complement to our suite of services and our culture.”

IMI was also founded in 2008 and has focused on providing data-driven marketing capabilities for medium- and large-sized businesses around the world, according to the release. The combined company’s has partnerships with notable companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon, HubSpot, Twitter and Shopify.

Washington Business Journal reported that the acquisition deal officially closed on Aug. 12.

IMI CEO Jason Brigham will transition to executive VP of West Coast operations, while IMI president Justin Cohen will serve as executive VP in the Las Vegas office. REQ’s headquarters will remain in the District, Throckmorton said.

“We are proud of the team we have built and the clients we serve,” Bringham said in a statement. “We look forward to creating and seizing new market opportunities with the talent and capability in this unique combination.”

This acquisition comes less than a year after REQ acquired strategic communications and tech public relations firm SpeakerBox in January.
