A comprehensive 2019 guide to DC coworking spaces

This guide lists more than 20 shared work spaces in the District, with some just opening this year.

Washington, D.C. has increasingly become a place to be for coworking with more creative spaces to work out of popping up each year. The District welcomed Mindspace this summer but had to bid farewell to prominent coworking space Impact Hub DC earlier this year in January and 1776 DC will soon join the list come Dec. 31.

From a hot desk, to a shared office, or even a private meeting room, there’s more than 20 coworking spaces the District has to offer. The list below includes coworking space locations, a short description with a shoutout to some cool amenities. In 2019, the District can expect new coworking offices from The Bond Collective, Two Birds and more.

1776 DC

1133 15th St NW

1776’s DC location overlooks downtown D.C. from the 12th floor with open seating space, conference rooms, an array of vintage Craigslisted furniture and a director of culinary named Sam Johnson who caters lunch every Wednesday and Thursday. The incubator opened in 2013 and has since had many changes from merging with Benjamin’s Desk last fall to launching its own accelerator program this year. 1776 DC’s website now reads “Temporarily Closed” as the prominent incubator and coworking space will close down its office Dec. 31, in hopes of finding a new home in 2019, Technical.ly DC previously reported. 1776 has a nearby location in Crystal City, where its welcoming its D.C. members to relocate to.

Inclusive Innovation Incubator

2301 Georgia Ave NW

Launched in April 2017, the Inclusive Innovation Incubator, commonly called In3DC, aims to host and support diverse entrepreneurs. The office space was designed by D.C.-based architecture firm Wingate Hughes and the incubator just recently hosted Street Pitch, D.C.’s version of “Shark Tank.” The space which is situated next to Howard University is joint venture between D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Howard University and In3DC. The incubator has 50+ open seats with four conference rooms and open desk seating starting at $200 and private offices starting at $750.

Cool Amenities: Night/weekends discounted membership, office hours with mentors

Alley DC Powered by Verizon

2055 L St NW suite 400

This D.C. coworking space powered by Verizon is a hub for entrepreneurs and creators in the area. The telecom giant partnered with New York-based Alley to turn some old D.C. property into a creative space designed by Gensler, Technical.ly DC previously reported. The coworking space opened in June 2017 with a mix of open workspaces and private offices, as well as mural art by D.C.-based artist Rose Jaffe.

Cool Amenities: Nursing room, unlimited coffee, tea and cereal day passes for $25

Mindspace

1301 K St NW

Tel Aviv-based coworking company Mindspace expanded to the U.S. this past July after growth in Europe and Israel, and landed one of its first two locations in D.C. Situated in the same building as the Washington Post, Mindspace will definitely give you Harry Potter vibes as soon as you walk in. The 31,000 sq. ft. K Street location has a full kitchen, lounges, books on books and chill out areas (aka space for you to take a little nap). Large or small, Mindspace has room for various sized companies with open space desks starting at $450.

Cool Amenities: Soda fountain, coffee bar

WeWork

WeWork has nine D.C. locations according to its website, with the newest location opening being its Chinatown office located at 777 6th St NW, which just opened its doors in October. The bicostal chain of coworking spaces has dedicated desks starting at $450, though prices may vary depending on the location.

Cool Amenities: Fruit water, space for large companies

MakeOffices

1015 15th St NW #600 (with multiple locations)

MakeOffices is another chain of coworking spaces with five D.C. locations spreading from K Street, to Dupont Circle and the Wharf. The coworking space grants its members 24/7 access and has an extensive list of amenities including locker storage, parking, a recording room and more.

Cool Amenities: Relaxation rooms with massage chairs, discounted gym memberships, unlimited craft beer on tap

The Hive 2.0

1231 Good Hope Rd SE

The Hive 2.0 offers three levels of memberships with 24/7 access, flexible terms, meeting space and more. With the support of Capital One Bank, this coworking space hosts small business workshops and networking events that are free and open to the public.

Cool Amenities: Washer and dryer access

Metro Offices

1725 I St NW Suite 300

Metro Offices has three D.C. locations with an array of ameneties at each from 24/7 access to a rooftop terrace at the coworking space’s Farragut Square location. Equipped with hot desks, conference centers and more, Metro Offices has a holiday promotion offering two free months on new memberships at all three locations.

Cool Amenities: Onsite restaurant at Dupont Circle location, fitness centers

Carr Workplaces

1717 K St NW Suite 900 (with multiple locations)

Carr Workplaces has seven D.C. locations, including offices on K Street and Capitol Hill. Carr offers fully furnished workspaces, virtual offices, hot desks, private offices and more.

Cool Amenities: Rooftop event space, fitness centers

Servcorp

1155 F St NW Suite 1050

1717 Pennsylvania Ave NW Suite 1025

Servcorp is headquartered in Sydney, Australia, and offers office spaces, virtual offices, coworking and IT solutions in over 160 locations, including its two D.C. offices. The F Street office is designed with original art work created by international artist Ford Smith. With the $300 per month coworking package, members can get a secured phone number with a dedicatedreceptionist to answer all incoming calls.

Cool Amenities: tech support, dedicated receptionist, local business phone number

cove

1624 14th St NW (with multiple locations)

cove’s 14th street location might be one of its most popular offices in the District, but the coworking company has multiple locations through D.C. The company’s prides itself on being “your neighborhood workplace” by offering open work space, meeting rooms, community and networking events.

Cool Amenities: seltzer on tap, fiber internet (all at the newest cove Dupont location!)

AdvantEdge

2101 L St NW

5335 Wisconsin Ave NW #440

With two D.C. locations, AdvantEdge’s L Street location is a Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZone) under the U.S. Small Business Administration. This coworking space offers Class-A office space that’s easily accessible with multiple transportation options in the area. The spaces are equipped with fully furnished offices, kitchens, receptionists and more.

Cool Amenities: Bike storage underground parking garage open 24/7

Flex Office Space

1411 H St NE (with multiple locations)

Flex Office Space has eight D.C. coworking and virtual offices with seven of them in the H Street corridor alone. The coworking company exclusive to the District has flex desk, private office, coworking and virtual office membership options.

Cool Amenities: Free trolley line from Union Station, dedicated phone

Open Gov Hub

1110 Vermont Ave NW #500

Open Gov Hub is a coworking space for open government organizations using research, advocacy, media, and technology to further these issues. Previous Technical.ly DC  Lalita Clozel lead reporter worked out of the gov tech hub which has a network that includes over 40 organizations and about 250 people working in over 100 countries around the world.

Cool Amenities: Staffing support, billiards, ping pong, air hockey, shuffleboard, TVs and a 24-person conference room

Regus

1050 Connecticut Avenue, NW (with multiple locations)

Regus is booming with nine D.C. locations and soon to be 10 when the coworking company opens up a new space on L Street. Regus features high-profile locations with flexible pay-as-you-go buying options. Prices vary by the location.

Cool Amenities: Business lounges, fitness centers, terrace access.

District Offices

10 G Street NE Suite 600

Formerly DC Workspaces, District Offices has four D.C. locations that feature private offices, virtual offices, dedicated desks and coworking space. The coworking company has a goal is to provide an office solution for tenants ranging from solopreneurs to Fortune 500 companies, its website reads. The Farragut location is HUBZone qualified and locations feature Class A buildings.

Cool Amenities: State-of-the-art plug and play tech, large work spaces (88-person training room at the Capitol Hill location.

Locale Workspace

Locale Workspace is functioning to fill the gap between coffee shops and corporate workspaces with community focused coworking spaces. The H Street coworking space has 40 open seats, wifi and printing options.

Cool Amenities: Free snacks, french press coffee

Hera Hub DC

5028 Wisconsin Ave NW #100

Hera Hub DC is a coworking space and incubator exclusively for women in the District. The international female-focused coworking space & business accelerator also has locations in San Diego, Phoenix and will soon be in Atlanta and Irvine. Hera Hub was founded in 2011e for entrepreneurial women to create and collaborate in a professional, productive, spa-like environment.

Cool Amenities: Business support, guest passes, writers’ lounge and a business book club.

Spaces

1441 L St NW Floors 10-12

1140 3rd St NE

Spaces originated in Amsterdam and now has two D.C. locations equipped with meeting space, over 300 dedicated desks and 24/7 access. The flexible coworking space different membership options ranging from memberships for small companies with private office space to just renting out meeting rooms and event spaces.

Cool amenities: Parking, tailored rental agreements, networking lunches

Industrious

1 Thomas Cir NW #700

Industrious‘s D.C. location is equipped with private offices, professional conference rooms, inviting common areas and a wellness room. The office space has city views and light-filled interiors with a terrace and a newly rennovated fitness center. A coworking space at Industrious starts at $473.

Cool amenities: Unlimited free printing, coffee bar and lounge, Compass Coffee, Bethesda Bagels, artisanal pastries, and fresh fruit served fresh daily

The Wing

The Wing is another work and community space designed just for the ladies. Membership includes access to open-plan and private workspace plus amenities designed with women’s needs in mind. The coworking space has a full calendar of community events and workshops as well. For an all access membership to all the Wing’s locations, membership fees start at $250 monthly.

Cool amenities: Library, Lactation room, shower, charging station

Premier Business Centers

Last but certainly not least, Premiere Business Centers has two District locations has private offices, day offices, meetings rooms and more. The coworking space has three different membership levels:gGold, silver and platinum, starting at $300 with the silver level.

Cool Amenities: Fully equipped kitchen and complimentary gourmet coffee and teas

The Yard: Eastern Market

700 Pennsylvania Ave SE

The Yard Eastern Market has been open for a year and the 31, 480 sq. ft. coworking space is located in Capitol Hill’s Hine School Development, Technical.ly DC previously reported. This location is  equipped with lounges, conference rooms, and common areas to inspire collaborative conversation. Members have access to the space 24/7 and are able to book the rooftop event venue and boardrooms.

Cool Amenities: Art gallery, ergonomic chairs from Knoll, key card access, wellness program

Ecofy

1899 L St NW

This coworking space hosts regular events featuring thought leaders, networking opportunities, and wellness activities. Coined by the coworking space as an ecosystem to that keeps your team activated, Ecofy is equipped with on-site digital and production experts and equipment to help get your company’s message out quickly and efficiently through web, video, photos, podcasts, and more.

Cool Amenities: Nitro coffee, standing desks, book club, run club, white board walls and infused water
