Following its first e-scooter launch on the East Coast in D.C. in October, Lyft said Monday that it’s expanding Lyft Scooters to Arlington, Va. The e-scooters are available for use starting today.

“We’re excited to announce that we’re expanding our service area for Lyft Scooters to Arlington, following our first East Coast launch in D.C. Arlington is an important part of the vibrant DC-metro area ecosystem and we look forward to continuing to give riders in the DMV increased mobility options,” Chris Dattaro, Lyft Bikes & Scooters market manager, Washington D.C., said in a statement.

Like D.C., Arlington residents can access Lyft Scooters via the Lyft app. Scooter rentals start at $1 with an additional 15 cents added per mile. Riders can even rent scooters by reserving one in advance through the most up-to-date version of the app, Technical.ly DC previously reported.

Lyft’s work with scooters and bikes is guided by four key tenets: transportation equity, safer streets, transit integration and environmental sustainability. Arlington is the fourth market where Lyft Scooters are available, following the launch in Denver, Santa Monica and Washington, D.C. The move also brings the ridesharing company’s e-scooters to the area where half of Amazon HQ2 will move in next year.

Like the D.C. government and District Department of Transportation (DDOT), Arlington also has an electronic and dockless bike and scooter pilot program that just launched in October 2018, where the county will survey its shared mobility services over a nine month period. Along with Lyft Scooters, Arlington residents can also find Bird and Lime e-scooters.
