Coworking company Industrious moved into D.C. earlier this year. By the end of 2019, CEO Jamie Hodari said the plan is to have a total of eight spaces in the metro area.

The next location, set to open in early 2019, will be in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington, Va.

The roughly 25,000 sq. ft. space will be on the third floor of a tower at 4201 Wilson Blvd. That’s part of a wider development called Ballston Exchange, which encompasses two adjacent office buildings and is adding retail and office space.

Industrious is the first new office tenant at the space, and signed a 10-year lease agreement with real estate firm Jamestown, L.P. The company raised $80 million earlier this year and moved into D.C. at a time when plenty of companies are expanding in the D.C. area, whether it’s companies who set up a presence here several years ago like MakeOffices or WeWork, or newcomers like Mindspace.

After moving into One Thomas Circle in D.C. in March, Industrious announced plans in May to open a Bethesda location, and Hodari told us that the company looks to attract entrepreneurs as well as employees or teams from more established businesses.

“This market combination is important to us as we service a wide breadth of clients that span across SMBs and Fortune 500 companies,” Hodari said.

In all, Hodari said the company is planning to have five coworking spaces in the area by spring 2019, and eight total by the end of the year, Hodari said.
