dcConnectHome, a District of Columbia Housing Authority initiative looking to help bridge the digital divide, is looking to help (DCHA) residents plug into new opportunities to access technology.

On May 5, a Technology Resource Fair at the Southwest Family Enhancement and Career Center will provide resources for residents of public housing and voucher participants.

“Our intention is to bring no-cost and low-cost digital resources to our residents, said DCHA Director of Planning Kimberley Cole.

dcConnectHome looks to help more residents connect devices, training, connectivity and content, Cole said. That could come in the form of access to devices, or groups and individuals looking to provide mentorship or training. To provide more resources, dcConnectHome seeks to partner with individuals or groups with an interest in spreading such technology.

The initiative was formed as part of a pilot with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s ConnectHome program, which aims to expand access to broadband. As Technical.ly DC has reported, it’s helped provide new wireless connections in low-income housing units, and coding workshops for girls, among other programs. They’ve partnered with organizations such as Byte Back and Connect.DC for tech training classes. Others who will be present at Saturday’s event include The Latin American Youth Center and Comcast.

Saturday’s event will be the second edition of the Technology Resource Fair, and Cole said they are open to more organizations participating.
