After building out its product for two years ICX Media founder Michael Avon said the company is in a new phase.
The D.C. startup spent about two years refining its platform, which is geared toward video content creators like brands, YouTube stars or indie filmmakers. The platform provide data tools to analyze how the content is reaching audiences, and provides a central place to work across platforms, as Technical.ly DC previously reported.
A $6.6 million Series A round that closed in October signaled the company was ready to ramp up. With that will come expansion in sales and marketing, dev and operations. Recently, the company took the beta label off of its offering for enterprise businesses.
Now Avon is bringing in a new leader to spearhead that internal growth. D. Scott Bowen recently joined as President and Chief Operating Officer. He last worked at Vistaprint, leading its digital services division. He was also cofounder of Artesia Technologies, a digital asset management startup that was acquired by OpenText in 2004.
“I think we moved from being in startup stage to growth stage, and Scott has a ton of experience scaling companies,” Avon said.
The fact that he has experience in product and engineering was also a plus, and Bowen’s excitement came through during a recent conversation.
“Even here within the fabric of the platform, there are nearly a dozen different platforms that we essentially amalgamate in terms of the machine learning and data science under the hood,” Bowen said.
The startup is also bringing in experienced leadership on another level, as former Time, Inc. CEO Laura Lang also recently joined ICX Media’s board. Avon called her an “absolute superstar,” who has been “deeply engaged” with the company in the first few months on the board.
“I have been seeking an opportunity to further engage with a company in the video content creation ecosystem for quite some time,” Lang, who is also the founder of Narragansett Ventures, said in a statement. “Today’s media-savvy consumers are turning to social media and streaming services more frequently, driving unprecedented demand for engaging and transformative video content from brands.” ICX Media “bridges that gap” between data and storytelling, she said.
Avon is expecting more hiring in the first part of this year, and a move to a new office in D.C. from its current K St. HQ is in the works. Additionally, the company plans to open an office in Los Angeles.-30-
