As announced back at the end of 2017, Archana Vemulapalli ended her tenure as chief technology officer of D.C. on Friday as she is heading back to the private sector.

With the transition, Chief Data Officer Barney Krucoff is starting Monday as Interim CTO for the District. Krucoff was the first person to named to the CTO position in 2016. He previously worked as a geographic information officer in D.C., as well as the State of Maryland’s Department of Information Technology.

In the CDO role, Krucoff led D.C. government’s renewed focus on open data, which included a new “open by default” data policy.

There was no immediate word on the timeline for naming a permanent candidate to fill the CTO role. However, the handoff was made Twitter-official.
