The Inova Personalized Health Accelerator (IPHA) has hired investor and business strategist Rick Gordon as its co-Director.

The hospital system’s accelerator program has received more than 50 applications since putting out the call last month, and expects to accept and announce their first portfolio company within the next 30 days.

“We’re thrilled to have Rick on the team,” said Todd Stottlemyer, CEO of the Inova Center for Personalized Health. “His combination of experience leading, mentoring, and investing in early stage companies makes him a perfect fit for our team.”

The accelerator’s applications are open, and it has recognized 25 interested and relevant applicants. Five applications are in detailed review.

The project is now managed by Pete Jobse as the managing director with Mike Thomas and Gordon acting as co-directors. Thomas is the founder and former CEO of Appian Partners, an Annapolis-based life sciences consulting firm.

Gordon previously founded and served as managing partner of MACH37, a Herndon-based cybersecurity accelerator that led investments in 46 disruptive technology companies. He is the former Vice President of Product Management at KEYW Corporation, COO of Lookingglass Cyber Solutions, Inc., Managing Director at The Civitas Group,  CEO of Tovaris, and a technology investment banker at Bear, Stearns & Co.

As we’ve reported, Inova is offering a $75,000 check in exchange for 10 percent equity in the companies it accepts – a relatively high $750,000 valuation for an early-stage accelerator. The companies will then run through four-to-five month individualized programs. If founders can raise $250,000 in third-party commitments, then Inova match the funds.
