Comcast is rolling out a faster home internet option in DC

D.C. is among the cities where Comcast plans to introduce gigabit internet service this summer.

The one-gigabit-per-second download speeds “will be among the fastest and most widely available,” the company said in a statement. It will be available to residential customers, and the service will roll out in the coming weeks, a spokeswoman said. The price is $104.99/month.

The service utilizes DOCSIS 3.1 technology, which makes it available over existing lines. That means a new modem will be required, but the company doesn’t have to install anything further ahead of the service going online.

Comcast has been rolling out the service nationwide since last year. On the East Coast it’s also introducing it in Baltimore, Philly and Boston this summer.
