Following on the successes of its “Coding Kickstart” event series, D.C.’s New York Code + Design Academy will run another program aimed at introducing total newbies to the tech world. This time it’s called “Design Kickstart,” and it’s “built for people who have little-to-no experience in design, and are looking to get their feet wet for the first time.”
NYCDA is teaming up with event organizers Tech in Motion to host a Kickstart at Eastern Foundry in Arlington on May 11. According to organizers, the event will cover key design tools as well as questions like What is design, and what can be done with it? and What careers exist in the design world?
NYCDA Community Manager Manny Pérez told Technical.ly this is essentially the design equivalent of Coding Kickstart, and that both programs will run regularly, generally from NYCDA’s campus on 15th Street. “Attendees don’t need a design background,” he said. “We’ll be doing some discussion-based learning, and I’ll be talking about the various elements of webpages and products that different designers consider. Fun stuff!”
