Seven local companies focused on making “a measurable impact on the lives of women and families” took the stage at Hera Hub on Thursday night in an attempt to wow a varied panel of judges. Yes, we’re talking the D.C. regional finals of InnovateHer 2017, and it was Reciprocare that came out on top.

Reciprocare helps low-income women find jobs in caregiving. Cofounder and CEO Charlene Brown took part in the fourth Halcyon Incubator cohort in spring 2016 and the platform aims to officially launch this summer.

After Thursday night’s win, Reciprocare is on to the next round of InnovateHER, the yearly national pitch competition organized by the Office of Women’s Business Ownership at the U.S. Small Business Administration. As part of this next stage Reciprocare will send a business plan to the SBA for review, and the SBA will select 10 startups from the total number of regional finalists to move on to the final pitch event.

“We are excited since we believe that Reciprocare will be a very competitive business for the finals,” Julia Westfall, CEO of Hera Hub and a judge of Thursday night’s regional competition, told Technical.ly.
