The “Upstart 25,” a new list of promising startups from CNBC, names 25 “companies that are building brands and breaking industry barriers on the path to becoming tomorrow’s household names.”
And wouldn’t ya know it — two local companies are featured on the list.
And at No. 6 is Virtru — the email encryption startup that raised a $29 million Series A in August. Virtru was founded by brothers John and Will Ackerly, former Bush administration White House advisor and NSA engineer, respectively, who believe that “privacy is a basic human right.”
The Upstart 25 companies were selected by “39 leading academics and analysts specializing in innovation and entrepreneurship” from a list of over 500 submissions. The finalists include startups from five countries and eight different U.S. states.
